Confidentiality Policy

Confidentiality is maintained in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework for good Practice.

I am a registered member of the BACP and therefore bound by their Code of Ethics.

Supervision is attended regularly, in accordance with the BACP Code of Ethics, and any discussion of clients in supervision is done so maintaining the anonymity of the client.

 

Exceptions to Confidentiality:

Confidentiality cannot be maintained in the following circumstances -

1. If you threaten harm to yourself or to another person

2. If I believe a child or protected adult is at risk of harm or abuse

3. If the courts instruct us to give information

4. If you share information about a proposed act of terrorism, money laundering, or other serious criminal activity

In certain cases, you, the client, may request that I share information concerning you. In this instance, written permission is required.

Data Protection

All information collected as part of the therapeutic relationship will be held securely. Basic factual notes about the counselling relationship and therapeutic work will be destroyed after seven years of the end of the counselling relationship. If you require access to your notes, please ask in the session or via email and these will be made available directly to you within 14 days of the request. Data is managed according to GDPR and the practice is registered with the ICO. Online sessions are facilitated via Zoom and no recordings are made.
